Sculpting extraordinaire Kagawa Masahiko was roped in to produce this signature mini vignette series for K-T. This time he touches on a 1970 Tatsunoko Production classic of an insect tale of the adventure of a brave little bee known as Hatch. |

ハッチの旅立ちHatch the bee set out a journey to find himself. A beautiful vignette to kick off this set and once again left me baffled by what Kagawa sensei could not accomplish with his talent. Firstly he did a very caricature like figurine as Hatch the bee is based. Then the surrounding backdrop reveals his knack of drawing realism in his works and everything from the cells of a beehive on the ceiling to the mushroom stuck to the side to the leaf at the rear are done so real-like. The sculpt is firm and superb and the paintjob just top draw as Kaiyodo would produce.

ママに抱かれてTaken from the final episode in the series which sees the reconciliation of Hatch and his mama Queen Bee in the bee hive. A truly touching vignette as one would easily feel for the emotional hug between the son and mother. The expressions of the 2 bees are nicely done with tears flowing on the 2 pairs of cheeks. Mama bee is colorfully painted and her right limb has to be pegged in a pretty awkward way. Love the base and backdrop which definitely gave a strong feel of the bee hive itself.

ゴミ虫との別れTaken from Episode 90 when Hatch's journey came to a tragic end with the passing of his good friend, the Garbage bug. Another beautiful yet sad vignette where Hatch mourns for a buddy who had to bode him farewell. Nice base and the dried leaf at the back looks like the real deal easily. I also love the torn wing of the Garbage bug as well as the cracked abdomen; the legs curled up in such a fashion which insect would when they passed on.

チョコとのダンスBeginning of Hatch's journey, he had to brave the storm before coming to the kingdom of butterflies where he encountered Princess Choco who razzle-dazzled him with a dance with him. Love Hatch's mesmerized expression. But to me I think the backdrop and base steals the thunder from the characters themselves. The flowers and leaves are exquisitely done and like much of the elements of nature in this set oozes so much realism in them.

負けるなハッチ!At the opening of the series, you will see the courageous Hatch battling hard with the evil mantis known as Kamakiri Not an easy piece to fix with the limbs and wings of Kamakiri easily displaced and fall out. Can really feel the actions of the duel between these 2 and is not hard to loath the evil-looking mantis. But it sure is hilarious to find one with a toupee on. |
