Sadamoto Yoshiyuki is the co-founder of the famous anime production house, Gainax and the creator of the cult series known as "Neo Genesis Evangelion" in which the 2 lead female characters, Rei & Asuka have been omni-present in the otaku scene since. Bandai HGIF series had been banging on the popularity of this series and made figurines of the various characters (especially the female characters) in the series in all types of costumes and attires as designed by Sadamoto sensei himself.

Asuka (Gothic Lolita Version)

The raunchy Asuka Langley dressed in a nice black & white gothic Lolita style  to the salivation of all otakus and when Kotobukiya materialize the design into a beautiful complete pre-painted PVC figurine early this year, I scrambled to look for extra budget as well as space to accommodate that wonderful piece of art, but to no avail. Luckily my prayers are answered when there was to be a miniature gashapon version. Of course it's a gulf of difference in overall quality but seriously I'm not complaining.  I was hoping that the steps she is sitting on could remotely resemble the nice marble one seen in the complete figure but this stainless steel-like steps is actually quite nice as well. This piece itself is worth half the value of the entire set.

Rei (Personal Clothings Version 2)

Winter is around the corner and Ayanami Rei is dressed for the season with a warmth-inducing scarf around the neck. Her other clothing suggest otherwise with a sleeveless sweater and a mini leather skirt. The pose seems like she would be sexually assaulted, kind of explicit, plus it doesn't really sits well on flat surface. You can see that there's some "flabby" skin around the armpits, indicating a relatively poor sculpt. The face is not that well done here as well.

Mikoto (Personal Clothings Version 3)

Katsuragi Mikoto has always been my favorite female character from the anime series. She is cool, she is sexy and she is intelligent. Of course the sexual tension she created via all the "sabisu sabisu (service)" was simply too much for Shinji and many of the otaku watching the show. Here Mikoto is donning her race queen attire with a fiery red body-fitting dress snuggling that beautiful physique of hers. The pose is ok and the facial sculpt is quite nice. I really like the futuristic shades on her head.

Shinji (Personal Clothings Version)

Ikari Shinji, the unwilling and unfortunate and to me the whiniest hero ever hasn't have a good impression in my own encyclopedia of classic anime characters together with Yamato Kira of the Gundam Seed series. This is part of 3 piece to combine to form a diorama of the 3 selected pilots of the Evangelion project taking a day off from their busy schedule and enjoy an outing together. Shinji is dressed in your typical skateboard kid attire and reminds me of those actors in some commercials for energy beverage. He comes with one half of the staircase to be formed with that piece from Asuka below.

Asuka (Personal Clothings Version 2)

The 2nd piece of the 3 piece diorama features Asuka slouching on the same flight of staircase with Shinji supposed to sit beside her. The pose seems bit rigid to me but nonetheless Asuka looks pretty cute in this attire. Hey wait. what's wrong with Asuka's face? Remnants of ketchup of a meal? Poor application of lipstick? I think it's a cosmetic defect which real soils the nice face of Asuka.

Rei (Personal Clothings Version 3)

The final piece of the 3 piece diorama features of course the main star of the series Rei in a very contemporary school uniform like attire with some books bundled up on her hands. She was supposed to stand beside the pair of Shinji & Asuka sitting on the staircase. Somehow Rei has the poorest facial sculpt of this set and evident here again. Like Asuka just above, this piece has a distinct cosmetic error with the white paint been scratched on her left sleeve. The paintjob should be better especially the checkered skirt which I had not find that kind of quality here.
