For many years now, "Tonari no Totoro" official tabletop calendars had been accompanied by cool polystone diorama of Totoro with other characters from the movie. It sure is a splendid way to spend 365 days staring at an important tool on your workstation to keep track the days. I have bought one back in 2002, and despite great joy for collectors, it is not as easy to dispose the calendar when the year is over as compared to other 2D ones. I have decided to get the 2007 version because of the lamp-post. Don't know what I mean? Read below... |

Tonari no Totoro 2007 CalendarThe scene focus on the playful Mei, donning her sky-blue raincoat to go hunting for renegade toads which are very active during rainy nights. Beside her. her newfound friend, Totoro, looking a bit stiff, perhaps not too into toad-hunting or perhaps insecure without an umbrella in the rain. The characters aren't made with precision and intricacy, a bit amateurish I must say, though Mei's expression upon finding her "treasure" is golden. The toad itself looks like what a child would mold using plasticine in an art class but then again with that size, there's limitation what the sculptor can do. The backdrop of a muddy pathway with patches of grass with a hedge forming the anchor-point for the calendar looks very forgettable. The greatest feature of the diorama lies in that wooden lamp-post and the best part is that there is a real bulb installed. With the aid of 2 AA batteries, you can light the whole scene up with a dim amber light which I truly savor. |

3 & a half stars which owes very much to the litted bulb. Man I am too easily suckered to such minor gadget. |
