Known in this part of the world as "Samurai Warriors", this mindless masscre game is a great stress relieving channel for some gamers but I am not one of them. But when Koei tried to publicize the third edition of the spinoff of the more famous "Dynasty Warriors" featuring Japan's own Sengoku Jidai luminaries in the mind-numbing Super Deformed style seen previously in 2 Dynasty Warrior series, I just could not stop myself from making an order and was enthralled by the end product.

Complete Set:

Sanada Yukimura &
Date Masamune

The prominent figureheads of rival company, Capcom's "Sengoku Basara" look much subdued in design as compared to the abovementioned.
Voted the most celebrated samurai warrior, Sanada showed youthful exuberance but he looked to be high on drugs here.
His tendency to lean forward due to bad sculpture also wane the gleam.

The signature kabuto (helmet) and the eye-patch as well as that devious smirk on his face, one look and you know Date is in town.
He definitely looks better than Sanada though his armor as well as the pistol gave him a rather Western look.

Naoe Kanetsuku &
Ishida Mitsunari

After catching the 2009 NHK Taiga drama, you will not be unfamiliar with this pair.

Naoe, the chief vassal of the Uesugi clan is easily recognised with the kanji for "love" on his kabuto.
He has a conniving slant of an eyesight which did not really suit his persona.
The armor looked kind of gawdy and I wonder what's the tailsman and saber are for.

His close confidante from the Toyotomi camp, Ishida Mitsunari is seen here with that furry kabuto as seen in the series, just not that feminine in color theme.
The way he pose with his papr fan remind me alot of Japanese traditional performing arts.
Sadly Ishida could not be peg down probably and like Sanada loves to lean.

Uesugi Kenshin &
Azai Nagamasa

I really fancy this Uesugi piece as he had those listless eyes like his TV persona, Abe Hiroshi.
The religious hood reflect his latter life and the samurai armor has to be the most authentic in this series, even the fork he is holding looks cool.

Meanwhile I have no affection of Azai who has this kabuto that look like a scientific apparatus, donned in a sky blue tu-tu and armed with what I could swear to be a European medivel sparring lance.
There aside I like the crimson eyes.

Kaihime & Shima Sakon

The valiant warrior princess who fended the hefty Toyotomi army during their conquest of her Oshi castle, Kaihime looks smoking hot in her red number.
She had borrowed the chain weapon from Abarai Renji from "Bleach" with the foxy eyes of Yoruichi.
Like the other female characters in this series, Kaihime has problem pegging to the base.

Shima Sakon looks like a seasoned mercernary here though the real character suggest otherwise.
He had a nice saber and a cool scar on the cheeks, but otherwise very forgettable character.

Oichi & Nene

One is the younger sister of the benevolent damiyo Oda Nobunaga, the other is the wife of Toyotomi Hideyoshi.

Oishi looks a jovial damsel, in her cute pink outfit while prancing with a circular gadget that look very much like a tamborine.
I am not picking her face sculpt and as you can see I have to glue Oishi down to her base.

Nene (not the Brazilian footballer) looks a bit more serious.
She looks like a fiesty canary with a pair of deadly machetes and hair accessory that could hurt as well.
But once again this piece was let down by a poor face sculpt and subpar pegging.

Hattori Hanzo &
Chosokabe Motochika

This pair is really cool and really show the designing prowess of the character designers from Koei.

Hattori, the character that spawned the beloved animated ninja by Fujiko Fujio, looked anything but lovable here.
His devil-like golden mask hide a fearsome face who look to take no prisoner.
The special sickle is a weird choice of weapon for this highly-skilled ninja.

As they said save the best for last and Chosokabe is spectacularly rivetting with his "no-care-for-the-world" bishounen face, his spellbinding fashion sense and his mesmerizing usage of the Shamisen (3 string musical instrument).

Final Rating:

Part two is looking to outdo this series which I hope they can just keep rolling it in..
