Other Remarks:

"Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei", a gag manga series created by Kumeta Koji for the Weekly Shonen Magazine which satirizes Japanese media. politics and social phenomenons and successfully won the 31st Kodansha Manga Award as well as spawned into 3 successfu; anime series as well as 2 interluding OVA. The lead character of the series by the name of Itoshiki Nozomu who's kanji name when written mistakenly could mean "zetsubou" or despair which suits his uber negativity with everything regards to the world and thus the way he impart his ideology to his students. In the winter Wonder Festival in 2008, Nozomu was being shown as a sneak preview for the next line of Nendoroid and despite not reading the manga nor watching the anime, with a name like "Mr Despair" I just can't help but fall in love with it. The ordeals I had to go through for this make Nozomu a much treasured item in my collection.

Original Packaging:

Itoshiki Nozomu

Of course I went to search for the complete "Zetsubou Sensei" series after that to better understand such a pessimistic character.

Nozomu whose dressing was inspired by the  Taisho period (1912 - 1926) which precedes the military driven first half of the Showa era.
In the other media, Nozomu is a slender bespectacled fellow with characteristic black hair and reminded me very much of some iconic characters by the mega mangaka group CLAMP.
In the Nendoroid version, Nozomu looks really suave with his glasses and definitely not one who lost all traces of hope.

Nozomu's kimono might look simple but it really stood him out from the rest of the Nendoroids in my possession.

The glasses which was extremely well made anchors on the groove of the hair fringe which one can remove at will.
However I do find the anchorage point was not firm enough as the glasses tend to slip off which really work me up.

The second face piece is one with a smirk conveying some form of mischief up on his sleeves (which are deep for sure).
I relally like the red scarf that was included which really spice up the piece.
Another cool piece of accessory is that straw made suitcase so typical of the olden days.

One the other arm, you can also slide in an attendance book which is a crucial piece of item for a typical Japanese school teacher as seen in anime or dorama.

The final face piece is also my favorite has Nozomu caught up in another of his wretched moment where he lost all hope and yearn to end his meaningless life.
The lines extending from the forehead are a brilliant metaphor used by mangakas from the past to emphasized the desapir or bewilderment one experiences.

To really create the mood, they actuall included a rope which you can wrap around his neck and runs up into his headpiece and there will be a orifice on the roof of the head to extend the rope upwards to create a "hanging man" effect.

The pair of bent arms with fingers all rigored up also amplify the wretchedness Mozomu is feeling.

Final Rating:

Despite this piece looks ordinary and lacking in the acessory department, I am truly smitten by Nozomu which propel him into the summit of the top ten of 2009.
